ASEZ WAO Crotona Park Cleanup in the Bronx

As families enjoy spending time outdoors, it’s important to help maintain our parks, lakes, ponds, and shores. While cities and local governments work to keep these areas clean, the need for upkeep often exceeds their capacity. This is where ASEZ WAO volunteers play a key role in keeping our green spaces healthy and sustainable.

ASEZ WAO Takes Action in Crotona Park

On the morning of September 8, 2024, 50 members of ASEZ WAO gathered in Crotona Park in the Bronx as part of the Green Earth movement. The cleanup was with Partnerships for Parks, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of parks throughout New York City. This event encouraged practical responses to climate change, one of ASEZ WAO’s goals outlined in the Take Action Project. The Take Action Project is a global effort in over 80 countries to fight global warming.

By the end of the event, volunteers had collected twenty bags of litter around the pond in Crotona Park. They spread fresh mulch in tree beds, cleaned barbecue pits filled with ash, and maintained the children’s playgrounds by cleaning and weeding.

Partnership for Parks Appreciates ASEZ WAO’s Effort

The Partnership for Park’s volunteer project manager, Katie Gluzberg, was very thankful to work with ASEZ WAO. She said, “I remember working with your organization last year and I remember everyone being very joyful and devoted to the work. Today I was really impressed by everyone’s dedication and energy, especially on a Sunday morning, when most people are spending time with their families. We really appreciate you coming to support us. You were able to pick up litter all around the pond that would otherwise go into the water, and all of the public areas were also brought to a higher level of cleanliness that everyone can enjoy.”
