ASEZ Graffiti Removal and Street Cleanup at Lehman College

On November 24, 2024, around 60 volunteers gathered at Lehman College to participate in the ASEZ graffiti removal and street cleanup. Volunteers from various colleges, including Monroe University and Westchester Community College, united to restore the community’s public spaces. Together, they collected 92 bags of trash and painted over a long strip of graffiti that spanned an entire block.

Enhancing the Neighborhood and Promoting Safety

The event was part of the Reduce Crime Together campaign, which focuses on cleaning up neighborhoods and lowering crime rates. By removing graffiti and picking up trash, the volunteers helped make the area look better and feel safer. Through these actions, they also encouraged others to keep their surroundings clean and take pride in their community. As students worked alongside local residents, they also built stronger connections and a shared sense of responsibility to keep the area looking good and safe for everyone.

Mercy University student Jeissell shared, “Events like this change the perspective of the community and the youth, encouraging them to start a change to keep the environment clean and not mess it up.”

Monroe University student Kayla added, “I am motivated to come here because we have a lot of kids in our community, and it is good to clean and have everything presentable for them so that they can grow up in a good environment.” This event proved that when people come together to care for their surroundings, they can make an impact on the future of their community.
